Review: Kraft vegan mac and cheese
Kraft came out with a vegan mac and cheese!
I always like to try different boxed vegan mac and cheese options when they come out, so my two kids and I tried it today with lunch (dad was at work). When I saw it in the store, the first thing I did was look at the ingredients. I'm all for products being made vegan, but I'm not a fan of crappy ingredients. There are many I try to avoid as much as possible, because they are damaging to the gut (carrageenan, xanthan gum, maltodextrin, etc.). I also try to avoid things like certain dyes, including Red 6 and Yellow 5. I didn't see any of my top offenders on the list, so I bought it.
As I mixed it up, it had a familiar smell. I know I've smelled that same thing before from another vegan boxed mac and cheese, but I'm not sure which one. I almost felt like they bought the other company's and put it in their private label box. Anyway, I made it like you do all the others and it looked good.
I liked the taste of it. It has a little bit of a strong taste to it, and slightly sweet. Overall, I liked it though and would buy it again in a pinch. My daughter felt the same way as I did. My son, however, didn't like it at all. He thought that strong flavor was like eating socks. That's what he said. He didn't want to finish his, but my daughter and I liked it and ate the rest of the box.
I'm glad there are numerous options of boxed vegan mac and cheese on the market today and that Kraft has come out with one. It's nice to have the option there for people. Personally, though, I still make the best vegan mac and cheese, hands down, of any restaurant or boxed version! Not joking. :)
You know the vegan movement has come a long way when you see big corporations like Kraft getting into it to get a piece of the action!
