How to use up apples
Ever look and see you have some apples that are going to go bad because they are not being eaten fast enough? Most of the time our apples all get eaten, but once in a while I see that they are just sitting there. I don't want them to go bad, so I prepare them in the crockpot and serve them up with dinner.
I take the washed apples and slice them up and put them into the crockpot. Then I add in a little lemon juice and stir (so they don't brown), then add in vegan butter, cinnamon, and a little sugar. Mix it together, and set the crockpot on low. I usually let them cook for about two hours, but you can check the texture before that. You want them soft, but not turning to mush. Once they are done, you can turn it to warm until you are ready to serve them up.
This tastes like an apple pie without the crust! I will put these in little serving cups and serve them with dinner and everyone loves them. It's just a quick and simple way to use up apples so they don't go bad or get thrown out. You can also turn the apples you need to use up into homemade applesauce. Just peel the washed apples and cut into chunks. Put them in the crockpot (or on the stove), and add in the lemon juice, butter, cinnamon, and some sugar. Cook them until they become mushier and then mash them up. Add sugar to taste.
It's that simple! Don't waste apples, there are many ways to use them up, this is just two of them.
