2012 - 2nd Vegan BBQ Bash in the Park - Vegetarian Awareness Month
Today we at the Daytona Beach Vegetarian Society put on our "2nd Annual Vegan BBQ Bash in the Park" to celebrate Vegetarian Awareness Month. The event was held from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Spruce Creek Park in Port Orange.
For this event we supply all the veggie burgers, veggie dogs, buns, condiments, plates, forks, etc. The public is invited and the information runs in the local papers. We ask that people bring a completely vegan dish to share with everyone. We had a lot of people turn out! It was another successful event, just as it was last year.
We had sponsors that helped to make this a great event once again. They donated food, a well as prizes (we gave away over 30 prizes through random drawings). Our sponsors for this event included VegFund, Ethos Vegan Kitchen, MooShoes, Tofurky (Turtle Island Foods), Sunshine Burger, gardein, Present Moment Cafe, Love Whole Foods, Fresh Healthy Cafe, Daiya, Babycakes, Primal Strips, Living Waters Health Foods, Michael's Health Foods, Tofutti, Vegan Heritage Press (including my favorite cookbook author Robin Roberts), Earth Balance, Chef Keith's Cuisine, and Cinematique of Daytona.
What a wonderful event! The purpose of this event is to raise awarness about vegetarianism in the community, bring together like minded people and those wanting to learn more about vegetarianism, and to demonstrate to people that they can have a wonderful meal and BBQ that is completely vegan. We had four picnic tables filled with all kinds of food and it was awesome. We gave away wonderful prizes, lots of literature, answered questions, and were thanked over and over by people in the community for having such an event in our area. Can't wait to do it again next year!
