When I was a kid people would make "pigs in a blanket." Well, as an adult, I make my own vegan version of this, and I call them croissant dogs. I've been making them for years, and the kids love them!
Making vegan croissant dogs is super easy, quick, and your kids are bound to love them. Okay, in all honesty I must say that I like them and my husband does, too! Give them a try and see what you and your family think. These are great vegan finger foods for birthday parties, too. This recipe made enough of them for 5 people (two adults and 3 children). If you are making them for less people you can cut the recipe in half, and only use one tube of croissants and 4 veggie dogs cut in half.
VEGAN CROISSANT DOGS
What you need:
2 rolls/tubes of croissants (I use Annie's brand)
1 package of your favorite veggie dogs
2 slices of your favorite vegan cheddar cheese, or use shreds (My favorite brand is Follow Your Heart)
What you do:
Preheat the oven according to the croissant package directions. Cut the veggie dogs in half, so that you end up with 16 pieces. Lay out a croissant, put the piece of veggie dog on it, add a small strip of vegan cheese (or some shredded vegan cheese), and complete roll up the croissant over the veggie dog, so that every area is closed up. Space them apart on the cookie sheet. Once you have done all 16 of them, they are ready for the oven. Bake them for about 14-15 minutes or until they look slightly golden brown on top. Have a little ketchup and mustard for dipping, and enjoy!
