I recently received a copy of the "Revenge of the Vegetarian: A Humorous Spin on the World of Vegetarianism," by Jim Tilberry. I got the book sent to me in the mail for the purpose of doing a book review. So here it is...
When I saw that it was a humorous approach to vegetarianism I was happy. There are lots of books that are heavy and deal with all the deep issues about vegetarianism, so I liked right off that this book took a different approach. It's not every day that you see a tofu tattoo, and there is one right on the cover of this book.
I read through the book and found some parts of it pretty funny. I liked the humorous approach to the list of 10 reasons to become a vegetarian, which included being able to make people feel uncomfortable at any time, being able to pick the restaurant when you go out with friends, and more. It's a funny list that had me laughing out loud as I read it to my husband.
I also enjoyed the funny vegetarian food pyramid, and some of the other oddities throughout the book, including the new proposed Olympic events, which include hummus wrestling, a bean-eating contest, and a Tofurky toss.
This is a cute book and worth looking through if only for once to make light of a subject that can often be heavy. It's a good thing to be able to laugh at one's self, and this book will help you do just that. While you may want to buy it for yourself, I really think this book would make an ideal gift for any vegetarian.
