As part of the Daytona Beach Vegetarian Society, I help to spread the veg message on a monthly basis. We hold monthly outreach events aimed at educating the public on the issues and introducing them to tasty vegan food.
I have come to really enjoy doing these events. It feels great being able to talk to so many people about something that I'm passionate about and being able to plant some seeds. It's a great feeling and I encourage you to do the same in your area, wherever you live. There are ways you can get involved and help raise vegetarian awareness in your community. If there isn't a vegetarian group in your area, start one! That's what I did with the Daytona Beach Vegetarian Society.
Yesterday we tabled at an event in Daytona Beach, called "Smoothies and Movies." It was a wonderful event put on by Midtown EcoVillage. It was an all vegan event that encouraged healthy living. They had zumba, yoga, free vegan food (a whole meal that included seitan, curried chickpeas, beans and rice, and salad), and more. At the end of the night they showed the movie "Forks Over Knives." Camille Holder-Brown and Omar Brown started that group in the midtown area they live in and are doing things like this to spread the veg message and help people learn to eat healthier. You can do that in your area, too!
The picture above shows our table at the event (I'm in the middle). Below are some pictures from our tabling at the event yesterday. We gave out lots of vegan literature and samples of gardein beefless tips, gardein beefless burgers, and Sunshine Burger. Go forward and spread the veg message! :)
