Ever notice how often you hear about meat recalls? Does it ever make you pause and think about all the animals that ultimately lost their lives for absolutely nothing? It does me.
This latest recall involves some 500,000 pounds of beef, a.k.a. cow. Just how many cows does that amount represent, I wonder? How how many animals lived a life of misery in a factory farm, endured a brutal slaughter process, and then were just recalled and thrown in the trash?
Rough thoughts I know, but it is the truth. On the other end, if there is a lettuce recall no lives were tortured and killed throughout the process. No blood was shed.
Meat recalls involve what was once a living breathing animal who had feelings. How is it that we can live in a society that cries fowl when people engage in dog fighting or other forms of animal cruelty, and yet stand on the sidelines munching down on other animals who have endured the same cruelty or worse? Why is that for most people the compassion only goes as far as including couple of animals, like dogs and cats?
Think about it.
Where do you draw the line on what animals should be spared from abusive and cruel conditions and treatment, and which ones should not? Is it okay to hurt a cow, chicken, dog, ferret, cat, monkey, etc.?
Remember, each dollar you spend (purchasing meat, beans or otherwise) is a vote that you support what is taking place in that industry. Are your votes in sync with your stance on animal cruelty issues?

Why thank you for the feedback! I'm glad you liked it and I'm also glad you are raising the kids vegetarian, too. I think most people just don't make the connection. They say they are against animal abuse, but their dietary habits are saying otherwise. It's the old out of sight out of mind thing.

I'm so glad to hear that! I was mentioning to Brian today that I wondered if I had anything to do with you guys drastically reducing your meat consumption. So glad to hear that I was, but even happier about the animals you are saving! Keep up the great work, I'm proud of what you both have done! Remember, peace begins with what is on your plate. :-)

J,
We have had more beans in the past month than I've had in my life time! Not complaining, just never realized how many things can be done with beans replacing meat, we're loving it!

That's great (and so true!). Now you need to start using some lentils as well. :)
